GRASSCHECK GB GROWTH GRAPH

Management Note

  • Following a warm and dry week we have seen soil moisture readings rise (showing soil conditions are increasingly dry) on farms across the country.
  • On-farm growth rates are very variable this week, ranging from 27.1-104.6 kg DM/ha/d, monitoring your grass wedge and measuring at least weekly to assess any upcoming surplus or shortfall in grass availability is crucial.
  • Despite having the highest soil moisture average at present, farms in Wales have recorded the highest growth rates, averaging 86.0 kg DM/ha/d - a fall of just 3.5 kg from last weeks peak. Declines in average growth rates have been recorded across all regions this week. The fall was steepest on farms in the north of England (-31.6 kg), but smaller in Scotland (-6.2 kg) and S. England (-9.1).
